52 Week Project: Week 17 – Indoors

Hi everyone,

The theme this week for the 52 Week Project is indoors. Every location has it’s own individual problems when it comes to photography and shooting indoors is no different. Many houses don’t have enough light or the temperature for each light is different making the room look really yellow. One of the problems with my house is it’s tiny and every wall has a door, a window, or furniture so it’s hard to take a photo without everything in the background looking cluttered, it’s distracting and takes your eye away from the subject; the best way to take care of that is to have your subject close to you and use a wide open aperture. It separates Boo Radley from the furniture and the door in the background.

To me it still needs a little extra help so the background isn’t a second subject, I want people to see Boo and his handsome face so I changed this photo to black and white. It just gives it that extra push to separate him from the background so that I can just focus on him and his pretty eyes. Look at that focus, he’s really concentrating on the snack he’s going to get for sitting still. Good boy, Boo!

Washington, DC pet photographer Shelley Castle is up next, click the link to see how she is shooting indoors.

Have a great week.

52 Week Project: Week 16 – Repetition

Yay! It’s Friday.

The theme for this week is repetition.  We are supposed to find a repeating element to add interest in our photo, it can be an object, a pattern, or anything else we can think of.

One of my repeating elements is a technique. Anyone still shooting film? I haven’t bothered in a while and there are some techniques that I miss, double exposures is one of them. I found a way to do it with a DSLR and wanted to give it a try.

This is my first one. I thought it was fun to get a shot of Boo and then get a shot of some dog biscuits. I’m calling it biscuit brain.

I kind of love these for different reasons. I love Boo’s eyes in the next one and the way the two photos blend, I also like the twigs transitioning from dark and clustered to light and spread out.

I love this because he looks like a lil’ wild thing coming out of the brush.

Boo looks so stoic here. I don’t think the transition between photos is as nice here but it’s got a great graphic element that I like.

52 Week Project: Week 15 – Rural

Yippee! It’s Friday.

Rural is the theme for the 52 Week Project. A nice contrast to last week’s Urban theme. We found a lovely spot just outside of Denver to take photos, an open space park with a pretty view of the front range. We took a nice walk and stopped for photos along the way enjoying the beautiful sunset and the nice weather. Even Boo Rad seemed a bit more relaxed on this walk. Looking forward to the longer days and longer nightly strolls that spring and summer bring.

Happy trails and happy tails.

52 Week Project: Week 14 – Urban

Happy Friday!

The theme for the 52 Week Project this week is Urban. We live downtown so it’s easy access for us, we just went out to the ally behind our house. I thought the theme and the weather would go nice with a grainy, black and white film look. We had a super wet snow early in the morning and warm temperatures later in the day so it left a few puddles. Perfect.

Up next is Spotty Nose Pet Photography, Los Angeles, California. Check out how everyone else interpreted the theme by clicking all the links until you get back to StinkDog Photos.

Have a great week!
